  • Son Ji-bong, Professor of Korean-Chinese Interpretation at the Graduate School of Translation and Interpretation, is a renowned conference interpreter and translator for Chinese and Korean. She received her B.A. in English Language and Literature from Korea University in Seoul and her M.A. from the Graduate School of Interpretation and Translation at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies. Professor Son also earned her M.A. in Contemporary Literature and her Ph.D. in Oral Literature from the Graduate School of Korean Studies at the Academy of Korean Studies. 
    
    Her research interests include comparative study of oral folktales in Korea and China and translation activities of contemporary Chinese translators. She has published more than 40 papers, including “Study on the national translation project proposed by Liang qi-chao”(2012) and “Comparative perceptions of a king as shown in folk-tales of China and Korea”(2014), in journals accredited by the National Research Foundation of Korea.
    She has published more than 20 books including <i>Chinese Folktale Characters in Korean Folktales</i> (『한국설화의 중국인물연구』, Pagijong Press), <i>Chinese for International Conferences</i> (『중국어 국제회의 통역노트』, Ewha Univ. Press), <i>Interpreting in Chinese for High-level Business Meetings</i> (『고품격 비즈니스 중국어 통역』, Co-authored, Ewha Univ. Press). 
    
    As a conference interpreter, Professor Son has interpreted on more than 1,000 prestigious occasions including the Korea-China Summit.
    
    She serves on the editorial board of the Chinese edition of <i>Koreana</i>, a quarterly on Korean Culture & Arts, published by the Korea Foundation. She also serves as Vice President of the Korean Association of Translators and Interpreters (KATI), President of the Korean Society of Interpretation and Translation Studies (KSCI), member of the editorial board of the Korean Society of Interpretation and Translation Studies (KSCI), and Vice President of the Korean Association of Interpretation and Translation Education (KAITEDU).
